ArduPilot Mega IMU Shield V1
This is the new ArduPilotMega IMU Shield! This board features a large array of sensors needed for UAV and Robotics applications, including three axis angular rotation and accelerations sensors, absolute pressure and temperature sensor, 16MBits data logger chip and more! It's designed to fit on top (or bottom) of the ArduPilot Mega board, creating a total autopilot solution when a GPS module is attached.
ArduPilot is a fully programmable autopilot that requires a GPS module and IMU sensors to create a functioning Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). The autopilot handles both stabilization and navigation, eliminating the need for a separate stabilization system. It also supports a "fly-by-wire" mode that can stabilize an aircraft when flying manually under RC control, making it easier and safer to fly. The hardware and software are all open source. The board comes with all the surface-mount parts already soldered, but requires the user to solder on connectors. Firmware is already loaded, but the autopilot software must be downloaded and loaded onto the board by the user. It can be programmed with the Arduino IDE.
APM can be used for either airplanes or rotary wing aircraft, including quadcopters and other multicopters and traditional helicopters. The autopilot hardware is the same, and you can load whichever firmware is appropriate for the aircraft you've got via the free Mission Planner. (You may choose to add other sensors to improve performance for specific airframes, such as an airspeed sensor for airplanes or a magnetometer for mulitcopters). All details and instructions can be found at each project's .
